The ones who have updated their Galaxy tablet to the latest official version may follow these steps to root the same. The following tutorial uses the CF-Auto-Root package. CF-Auto-Root is firmware independent and it supports Android 4.2.2 and further firmware as well.

Steps for rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean :
Step-1: First , Download the CF-Auto-Root package for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 on your computer .
Step-2: Extract the root zip in order to get the CF-Auto-Root-espresso10rf-espresso10rfxx-gtp5100.tar.md5 file in it.
Step-3: Now , download the Odin 3.07. Extract it and you will find Odin3 v3.07.exe including some extra files.
Step-4: Switch off the Galaxy tablet and for confirmation of complete power off , wait for some time for the device to vibrate.
Step-5: Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons together until a construion Android robot icon with a warning triangle is shown on the screen in order to make the device enter the download mode. appears .Now press the Volume Up button to further continue into Download Mode
Step-6: As administrator , run the file with the name Odin3v3.07.exe
Step-7: Connect the Galaxy Tab to the computer with a USB cable when in Download Mode.Wait for the Odin to detect the tablet. After the device is connected , a message saying Added will be shown in the Odin message box. The ID: COM box turns blue with the COM port number which indicates a successful connection
Note: If you don’t see any Added message , try another USB port, preferably the one located on the back side of your computer. Re-install the USB driver if in case the Odin still fails to detect the device.
Step-8: In Odin, click the “PDA” button and then chose CF-Auto-Root-espresso10rf-espresso10rfxx-gtp5100.tar.md5 file
Step-9: Verify for Auto Reboot and F.In Odin , Select the Reset Time checkboxes . Uncheck Re-Partition option
Step-10: Click the Start in Odin for beginning the installation.
Step-11: Once the flashing is done , the tablet restarts by itself. Now a “pass” message with green background will be seen in the extreme-left box at the top of Odin.Now , safely remove the USB cable from the tablet to disconnect it from your computer.
